Our Choice, the People’s Choice

On the Mackey Mitchell Architects website, Paul Wuennenberg is described as a Renaissance man; his professional and personal interests fan out from architecture and art to carpentry and gardening. Aesthetics is at the core of all these things, and Wuennenberg’s eye for the pleasing, the enticing and the useful has garnered many awards for himself and Mackey Mitchell. Among these are two consecutive People’s Choice Awards for designs submitted to the 21st Century Project. He is now the lead designer on the implementation of the 21st Century Project design concepts at Indiana University-Bloomington.

Wuennenberg’s most recent honor is the ACUHO-I S. Earl Thompson Award, which recognizes people who, while not connected directly to ACUHO-I, have contributed considerably to the college and university housing field.

Wuennenberg also won a Compelling Documentary Award for his short “New Urbanism Meets Student Development,” has self-published books on collegiate Gothic architecture and student housing, and has appeared frequently in ACUHO-I conference programs as a presenter. While Wuennenberg may not be directly connected to ACUHO-I, his work and influence is interwoven throughout the association, and we are the better for it.
